After a long day on the job, “I really enjoy sitting out on the deck and enjoying nature…watch the deer run through,” says Joe Gallo, Workmasters building contractor who developed The Orchards in Long Grove. “It’s private, quiet, relaxing, and homey.” Joe’s wife Valerie adds, “Yet it’s still very convenient to nearby shopping and necessities.”  The property is at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac, with its rear yard backing up to trees from the orchards original to the area.

Valerie’s favorite features? “The kitchen… it’s spacious, with two refrigerators, two dishwashers, two ovens… it’s great for entertaining. We have dogs, and our mudroom has a built-in shower for them when they come in from the yard. We love the heated floors; it’s such an even consistent heat, and we’re spending nearly half what some of our neighbors are in winter gas bills. And I love the master bedroom; it gets so much light with its wall of windows, and we can walk directly outside to our private patio.”

Any special memories here that the house was just perfect for? Him: “We’ve had some big Super Bowl parties in the basement, watching in our home theatre room on the 120-inch projection TV.” (And it’s designed right down to the details, including the vintage-style popcorn stand, the door with the theater-style round window and the cushy theater seating.) Her: “We hosted a party for Joe with almost 100 people inside in January, and there was room for people to mingle and be comfortable.” They both enjoy the climate-controlled wine cellar and tasting room, with its distinctive wall-mounted table: a single, arching slab of wood sliced from a Florida cypress tree.

After 12 years and raising two girls here, it’s time for the Gallos to downsize, which should make another soon-to-be-Long-Grove-resident family very happy soon.
