Local Leaders Defined by Their Resilience, Resolution, Adaptability, Intelligence, Toughness, & Charitable Ways

The TV Star

Nancy Loo (WGN-TV)

Biggest Influences?

In junior high, I set a goal of becoming a journalist. As a teenager, I wrote an essay about Barbara Walters, the most prominent woman on television at the time. I got to tell her about it personally when I worked at WABC-TV in New York during the 1990s. She was gracious, friendly and encouraging. However, my biggest influences are my parents: first-generation immigrants who ran a Chinese restaurant for three decades to send me and my two brothers to college. Their work ethic continues to drive me.

How do you unwind?

I love all getaways… workouts… Nexflix-and-chill bingewatching… and reading.

The Public Servant

Jan Sauer

Your family members?

My husband Bruce and I have been married for 41 years; we have two adult sons, Nick and Adam, who live in the Chicagoland area.

What is your professional role?

I’m Vice President of Operations for Servare Products, and also a North Barrington Village Trustee. My Village duties include being Roads Commissioner, liaison to the Planning Committee, member of the Finance Committee, and Village Vice President.

Any recent favorite moments?

On a trip to California, my son Nick and I took a long, rigorous mountain hike; when we summitted I was tired, but the 360-degree-panoramic-view was spectacular – a day to remember!

The Business Titan

Gale Cohen-Marco

Your professional role?

Co-owner and marketer for our SportClips business.

How long have you lived in the area?

Twenty-five-plus years!

Tell us about your family.

My immediate family includes my husband Peter; my adult son in Boulder, Colorado; 2 dogs and 3 cats.

Causes you’re passionate about?

Animal charities. I contribute small amounts of money to a little over 20 of them each week.

Biggest Influence in your life?

My spouse; he is my anchor.

How do you unwind?

I go out to dinner with my spouse/business partner, and try not to discuss our business!

Favorite recent moment?

The Lake Zurich Area Chamber of Commerce’s Evening of Excellence Banquet.

The Coach

Kelli Schulte

Who were your biggest influences?

Easily, my parents. My dad taught me to put myself out there, and to never let the fear of failure beat me. I started my consulting practice when I was just 30 years old, and might not have had the courage without Dad’s support. My mom taught me to laugh (which I’m known to do to the point of crying).

How do you unwind?

I love to explore all our area offers: new restaurants, shopping, walking local trails with family and friends, and walking around Lakewood Dog Park with our rescue pups Mousse and Henrie.

The Second Act

Linda Gump

What is your professional role?

I own College Nannies + Sitters + Tutors in Barrington.

What causes are you most passionate about?

I support American Cancer Society, American Heart Association (I’m a Red Cross Trainer) and Alzheimer’s Association. I also support various local charities that provide services to children.

Any recent favorite moments?

Definitely; my youngest daughter Monica’s cheerleading squad made it to the State Tournament!

How do you unwind?

Reading People Magazine helps me unwind – since I don’t watch much TV – and it helps keep me in the loop on pop news and culture.
