2018 is yours for the taking. It’s time to kick the fad diet and workout programs to the curb. They are short-term solutions to long-term health and fitness problems. Let me put it to you like this: Nobody wants to lose 10 pounds only to gain 15 pounds back. But that’s what most people do every year, right? Not you. Not this year; I challenge you to do things differently. Think differently. Act differently. Commit to becoming the best version of you.
Here are five sure-fire ways to change your body (and life):
Connect With Your Inner Dialogue
The first step to making any change (that sticks) is developing awareness around your current state of mind, and how it’s impacting you. Succeeding in life is less about what sits in our outside world, and more about the stories we tell ourselves. We all have patterns of behavior (habits). Some serve us well. Others, not so much. The way you perceive the world and yourself is not absolute. It’s a choice, and you can make a different one.
Rethink Your Goals
Losing weight is not a goal. It’s a result. Your goals (no more than 2 or 3) should be small daily actions that are done consistently over time. Daily actions build habits that lead to sustainable results.
FOCUS ON WHAT’S ATTAINABLE
Identify what’s attainable for you. Start with small steps and build off of them. Being healthy is a lifestyle. There is no start, or end date.
DUMP THE “FOODS ARE GOOD OR BAD” MENTALITY
Society tells us to feel either proud or guilty about every food choice we make. You shouldn’t feel guilty about wanting the occasional cookie. Give yourself permission to have a glass of wine or a piece of chocolate cake. Don’t box yourself in; t’s a recipe for disaster. All foods can fit into a healthy lifestyle.
IMMERSE YOURSELF IN POSITIVITY
Surround yourself with positive like-minded people. Doing so provides encouragement, emotional support, and a healthy environment that will give you the strength to overcome your darkest day. It’s the most courageous thing you could do for yourself this year.
