Caring Women’s Connection (CWC), a Lake County based 501c3 charity, celebrated its 59th anniversary in September by setting an audacious goal: raise $100,000 over the next year with every penny to be spent on women and children in need in Lake County. Through a mix of social activities, fundraisers and volunteer opportunities, Caring Women’s Connection provides local women with fun and friendship while giving scholarships and grants to carefully vetted Lake County recipients.
I had the honor of calling last year’s grant recipients and letting them know we were able to fully fund their request, and in a few cases, give them more than they asked for. To hear the joy and excitement in their voices was a heart-felt experience I will never forget, and I want to be able to make even more of those calls in the coming year. Through the work of our incredible volunteers, we can provide vulnerable kids with court advocates, make sure shoes and boots are available to Lake County residents who need them, help abused women and children get out of desperate situations, and so much more.
CWC has three major fundraisers a year:
- The Love Fund, a live auction that was recently held at Kemper Lakes Golf Club.
- A new fundraiser, “100 for $100,” in February.
- A Spring Luncheon in April.
In between these signature events there are monthly social outings and volunteer opportunities. Empty nesters, parents of school-aged children, business people searching to find meaningful community and connections through CWC are always welcome.
CWC began in 1958 as a way to meet other women in Hawthorn Woods. Since that time, the organization as expanded to other communities and continually strives to help fund worthwhile not-for-profits. CWC also awards a Scholarship to a deserving high school senior in Lake County each year. Membership is open to all over the age of 21, interested in community, charity and camaraderie. There are many benefits to becoming a member including fun-filled meetings with raffles and appetizers, signature events, CWC Connections publications and an online newsletter.
