Mind over Muscle: How to Create Success, Happiness, Freedom and the Life You Deserve 7

This saved me. My family. My business. My sanity. And it may just save you, too.
Despite my advocacy for the physical, mental, and emotional benefits of exercise and healthy eating I was depressed. Day after day I poured every ounce of my soul into helping my clients achieve better health and wellness. But when it came to my life and what I wanted I was trapped in the confines of my own head. Although regular exercise helped me win the moment it was never enough to overcome my greatest obstacle. Me.

Day after day the voices in my head held me captive; I couldn’t escape negative self-talk. I tried to push through it. I told myself to think positive. I read motivational quotes, books, blog posts, listened to podcasts, but none of it changed the driving force behind the thoughts, feelings and emotions that were holding me back from what I really wanted.
Happiness. Success. Freedom. On the surface it was obvious what each of these things meant. But a deeper look revealed something I didn’t expect. I had no idea what they meant to me. And I’m not alone. After working with hundreds and hundreds of people over the years I have found a great majority of people share the same struggle.
A clear understanding of what they really want, and why. Simply put, the right MINDSET.
What is Mindset you might ask? It’s a particular way of thinking. The lens into how we view ourselves, and the outside world. An attitude or set of opinions about something. A belief system and perspective that may be stopping you from achieving everything you want out of life.
Not having the proper Mindset was dragging me down like an anchor for years. And it may be dragging you down, too.
We all create stories that protect and imprison us from what we truly desire. In my case it was “I’m not smart enough to be successful.” This self-limiting belief I held as truth for much of my life.
Once I learned how to step inside my head and dissect my thoughts that’s when I figured out it tied back to elementary school. I had been placed in a learning disabled program. I didn’t learn like the other kids. For years society told me I wasn’t smart enough. At least that was my interpretation. The reality was that I was the one telling myself that story. The moment I recognized that, my anchor was released.
This has been a life changing experience for me. Now I want to pay it forward and share what I’ve learned with you. Over the next several months I will share a series of articles on Mindset as it relates to health, fitness, nutrition and lifestyle.
