July 2017 Lifestyle Letter 1

We are blessed in SW Lake County to have a plethora of summer time attractions (distractions?) to keep us busy after a long winter. While other parts of the country enjoy outside living many more months of the year, few folks elsewhere take to the outdoors like we do when the weather cooperates. That’s why this issue of SW Lake Lifestyle is all about Summer Fun!

Traffic on Rand Road on summer Fridays can get a little congested with the scores of families heading north. Some no doubt are heading to beaches in Wisconsin, including downtown Racine. That’s the focus of our first Road Trip feature, a semi-regular look at places to check out that are just a short car ride away.

If boating on Bangs Lake, the Fox River or Lake Zurich is your kind of fun, go zoom-zoom! If sailing or enjoying a lazy paddle is more your speed, enjoy your time on spots like Honey Lake, Lake Louise or Tower Lakes. Want to wet a line? The pond at Lakewood Forest Preserve is ideal (and be sure you have a fishing license).

Traveling this summer with a pet? Sue Shimkus of Lake Zurich Travel offers timely advice. Looking to board your pets while traveling? Brian Linning of Bark ‘N’ Town shares important tips on what matters most. If dipping a toe in a backyard pool sounds refreshing be sure to check out Renee Clark’s (@Properties) Open House feature on these pages.

Outdoor recreating certainly offers plenty of rewards when heading out of town on vacation. Read the tips from a new contributing writer, Alyssa Poggioli of Lake Zurich, about maximizing your time away from the daily grind this summer.

Also, we happily present the first contribution from Lake Barrington’s Marissa Plescia, our summer intern. She shares a story about how Tutor Time of Lake Zurich educates the earliest of learners.

Finally, please allow me a small indulgence to thank the advertisers who make this magazine possible every month. Michael Drelicharz, owner of the Verizon Wireless Zone shared a wonderful story about a new customer who visited his Barrington store recently with a copy of SW Lake Lifestyle in hand. When considering shopping options please patronize our advertisers. Let them know you saw them in the pages of this magazine. They’ll appreciate it.

See you around town, and don’t forget the sunscreen!
