Barrington Chamber Selects Business Awards Finalists
In categories ranging from Newcomer to Volunteers, the Barrington Area Chamber of Commerce recently announced the 2017 nominees for the “Spirit of Excellence” Business Awards. Nominees have been selected by the membership for recognition in the following categories:
Hospitality: Nominees are Shakou, McGonigal’s Pub, Pepper Park Coffee, Moretti’s of Hoffman Estates, Copper Fiddle Distillery and Grassroots.
New Business: Contenders are Pinot’s Palette, Windy City Bulls, Neoteca Pizza & Wine Bar and Lumen Optical.
Community Partner: This category honors a not-for-profit or organization. Nominees are ClearCaptions, The Community Meal, Michael Joseph Foundation, JourneyCare, Let It Be Us and Rahab’s Daughters.
Volunteer: Nominees include John Jackson (4ci Products-Balancing Life’s Challenges), John Corey (Ameriprise Financial Services and Nancy Roach (Upstream Investment Partners).
Rookie of the Year: New member nominees are Gale Cohen-Demarco (Sports Clips), Basia Aniszewski (Monat Global) Cedric Quackenbush (Windy City Bulls) and Tom Drapinski (Brainstorm Startups, Inc.)

BARRINGTON’S “DR. K” HONORED WITH NATIONAL AWARD
Retired Grove Avenue Elementary School Principal Dr. Cindy Kalogeropoulos was awarded the prestigious Lifetime Terrel H. Bell Award for Outstanding School Leadership by the U.S. Department of Education. “Dr. K” retired in June after 31 years. During her tenure, Grove earned three Blue Ribbon Awards (1992, 2007 & 2016). She is the first principal ever to earn three blue ribbons for one school.
