An Early Christmas

For more than a few of us, Christmas came early this year. To be precise, it happened on November 2 at 11:48 pm when the unthinkable happened: The Chicago Cubs won the World Series. It was an event 108 years in the making and certainly worth the wait. Celebrations in SW Lake County occurred spontaneously with tears, hugs, glasses raised, kids banging pots and pans on front steps, backyard fireworks and church bells peeling.

The holiday season is one perfect for the community. We really encourage you to shop locally so we’ve put together a gift guide featuring lots of gifting surprises that await you from our vibrant and diverse merchants. This is also a good time to give back. We like hearing stories about families gathering to decide which local charities to support, and the churches, temples and not-for-profits that will benefit from the gift of time from volunteers.

As the weather changes, some of us need more incentive to get off the couch and get out. We are fortunate in this corner of the world that there is a vibrant local music scene. Our story on “Creatures of the Night” is proof-positive that if you’re looking for a fun evening, you won’t have to go far.

Finally, let’s not forget the true blessings of the holidays – to celebrate those around us, pull family members close, worship together, be thankful for what we have and give to those in need of a helping hand.

Happy holidays, and we’ll see you around town.
