When I was in high school, I didn’t care for March. The wind became warmer; the snow started to melt and my favorite season was almost over. You see, I was a competitive downhill ski racer. March signaled the winter sports season was ending, and it was time for me to turn in my skis for a slower paced life.

These days, I still love winter, but, I also look forward to March with its longer days and warmer temperatures. Everyone starts coming out of our cozy hibernation. Life becomes new and fresh and fun again.

In SW Lake County, March is a great month to visit the many local forest preserves to see the small buds that will bloom into flowers; hear the local songbirds announcing the new season and maybe even catch a glimpse of a fawn.

Long Grove is beginning to bloom again, as well. Its quaint streets are busier, and it’s easier to get out and about to visit new stores like Village Pizza and BBQ, as well as the old favorites, such as Epilogue and the Village Tavern.

SW Lake Lifestyle magazine is for, and about, our readers. You can help shape your magazine by sharing with us your pictures, your stories and your ideas for future issues.

Enjoy the warm weather to come. I look forward to seeing you around town!
