CFC Hosts Open Self-Guided Prairie Walk July 5

Citizens for Conservation is hosting its second season of Interactive Self-Guided Prairie Walks at Flint Creek Savanna, located at CFC’s Headquarters, 459 W. Hwy 22 in Lake Barrington. The preserve is open free to the public the first Sunday afternoon of each month, July through September, 1-4 p.m.

The July 5th walk will feature wildflowers on the prairie. This is a great time to visit the prairie when the grasses are at medium height and all the wildflowers in bloom can be easily seen. Visitors might be surprised to see a Great White Egret stalking prey in the pond or Purple Martins in their high rise condo on the trail. Be sure to wear good hiking shoes. Bring your cell phone with a Scan app to access the videos by restoration experts along the trail.

Broken Earth Estate Wine of the Month

The Estate Chardonnay is the perfect example of a California wine with very light body and beautiful lengthy finish. It starts with sweet tropical fruit and ends with acidity and elegant oak in the background. It has true California characteristics with slight notes of New French Oak and a creamy finish.

Broken Earth Winery’s very first offshoot is located in Long Grove, Illinois. Opened in late 2014, the location offers exquisite wines from its very own vineyard in Paso Robles, California. The original name of the 2,500-acre Paso Robles ranch, Rancho Tierra Rejada, is Spanish for “land of worked earth” and was the inspiration for the name of the winery.

Broken Earth has many varieties of Chardonnay from which to choose. As our Wine of the Month for July, the Estate Chardonnay is being offered at a special discount for a short time. This specific wine exhibits a lighter taste profile and is a refreshing break from the heat of the long summer days.
