The month we celebrate Father’s Day, the beginning of summer, the end of the school year and now, with this magazine, I celebrate my own anniversary. It seems that June is the perfect month to introduce myself to you.

One year ago, I began work on what would be an extremely educational and sometimes trying new venture when I started SW Lake Lifestyle. I have been asked many times, “Why SW Lake?”  “What does it mean?” “Why here?”

We mail to North Barrington, Hawthorn Woods, Long Grove, Kildeer, Deer Park and Lake Zurich—all located in Southwest Lake County.

The Why.  While I grew up in Arlington Heights, many of my memories as a kid are of spending time in the SW Lake area. I was always cruising through on Route 12, going to the beaches in Wauconda, boating on the Chain or skiing at Wilmot.

My dad’s best friend owned the property that is now the entrance to Wynstone, and we would visit him often to shoot clay pigeons and find fresh produce at his farm stand. We picked pumpkins at Route 12 and Old Rand. On Sundays we would go to the Village Tavern of Long Grove to listen to ragtime music and eat sundaes.

Our mission is simple: we hope to play a small role in helping the community flourish, by producing a private magazine filled with news and special events specifically from your surrounding area. On many levels we operate differently than your typical magazine—one of the most exciting facets of our publication is that it truly belongs to the community. Not only is the magazine exclusively for and about the residents, it is the true pulse of what is happening and important to you, your family and your community. I sincerely hope you continue to find SW Lake Lifestyle informing and entertaining.

Looking forward to seeing you around SW Lake this summer!
