Lake County March for Babies

The annual Lake County March for Babies, held Sunday, May 3, at the Old School Forest Preserve in Libertyville, brought together more than 800 people to support the March of Dimes mission to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. The 5k walk was led by Bettina and Brian Golwitzer and their children, Brayden and Emily. The Golwitzers have firsthand experience with the March of Dimes mission as their daughter Emily and her twin sister Alexis, who passed away shortly after birth due to an un-diagnosable birth defect, were born nearly 3 months too soon. Like Emily, one in nine babies in Illinois are born too soon, but the March of Dimes is funding groundbreaking research, educational programs and advocacy efforts to reduce this number.
