Ela Library Grand Reopening Celebration

Celebrate the completion of Ela Area Public Library’s six-month renovation project on Saturday, May 2 from 2 – 4 p.m. Festivities include an official ribbon cutting, Bubbleman Geoff Akins, glitter tattoo artist, digital photo booth, video gaming, Forge demonstrations, make your own sundaes, raffles and more. This long-awaited dream becomes reality, as guests are welcome to experience the many great new features and dynamic high-tech areas. Fun and engaging spaces for kids as well as collaborative and creative spaces for groups to work together in a variety of configurations. The new space and equipment will help residents develop new skills, pursue hobbies, and create works and projects for fun or profit. All are welcome.

Police Explorer 20th Anniversary 5K

Lake Zurich Law Enforcement Explorer Post 2 has offered the opportunity for young people from the community to learn more about a career in law enforcement for 20 years. Each explorer in Explorer Post 2 is required to attend monthly meetings and to respond to details to assist the community by directing traffic or performing other service-related tasks. Additionally, explorers may choose to participate in the Ride-Along Program where explorers ride with patrol officers and assist them with their daily activities.

Come show your support for this great program at the Lake Zurich Police Explorers 20th Anniversary 5K Walk or Run on Sunday, May 10,  at Paulus Park. Online Buyers & Sellers Can Make Deals in Lake Zurich Police Parking Lot

If you are going to buy or sell items online, consider coming to the Police Department parking lot to make your transaction.  In response to the inherent risk when dealing with an online stranger, the Lake Zurich police are offering its public parking lot as a safe haven for people making online transactions on websites such as Craigslist.

The Police Department parking lot at 200 Mohawk Trail is well-lit and under 24-hour video surveillance.  Officers are also coming and going at all times of the day and night. You can find some great deals via online marketplaces, just please be safe when doing so.

Hawthorn Woods Annual Golf Outing

Women’s Self Defense Program

Learn to defend yourself with confidence after completing the Hawthorn Woods Police Department Women’s Self-Defense program. This interactive program provides training in recognizing and responding to dangerous situations, and techniques for successfully defending against and escaping the types of attacks most often encountered by women. The series of four classes offers an excellent opportunity to learn physical skills and techniques to defend against attacks while maintaining a fun and positive environment. You will learn how projecting confidence through body language can make you less of a target. The next class series begins on May 27. Classes will be held on Wednesdays from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Hawthorn Woods Village Barn. Visit VHW.org for more information.

Hawthorn Woods Aquatic Center Opening Day

Make a splash this summer by visiting the Hawthorn Woods Aquatic Center. The summer season kicks off over on Saturday, May 23, over Memorial Day weekend.
